About the Issues

Economy and Jobs

From speaking with many of my constituents, I have found that most of you are very concerned about the economy and jobs. With unemployment as high as it is, I can understand your concerns! Being a small business owner, I am pro-business and I will work to improve our business climate, bring new green jobs to the state, as well as, making sure to keep well-paying jobs in the state so that our graduating college students stay here in Maine instead of leaving our state.

Education

A good education is something that I also believe is important for our children and adults. Higher education is very expensive. I believe that higher education needs to be more affordable and accessible for our young students and adult learners.

Fuel Prices

Fuel prices will be a concern for many of us during this upcoming winter. I believe we need to work at finding alternatives to gas and oil, or at least more efficient ways of using them in our homes.

There is heating oil assistance help available for low income people through the LIHEAP program. If you or someone you know is elderly or low income, have them sign up as soon as possible. You can find more information here about LIHEAP and other programs, including property tax refund programs. Help may also be available through General Assistance at your local town office.

Healthcare

I believe that we all deserve equal, affordable, and accessible health care. It will be interesting to watch how the Affordable Health Care for America Act plays out. For more information or to find out how this Act affects you visit www.whitehouse.gov/healthreform.

I Care…

Being a mother and small business owner, I have the same concerns you do about our economy, jobs, green energy, as well as so many other issues. I care about our towns and I care about our people. I have worked hard during my first term and I will continue to work hard to bring change to our great state in my next term.

If you would like to speak with me about an issue that concerns you, please feel free to call or e-mail me.
